BN3 "Performance Enhanced" Supercharged Power

NEDHEADS BN3

2009-2013 ZR1

LS9 ENGINES
SUPERCHARGED

2009 ZR1 Corvette is the first production model Corvette equipped with a supercharger and the Supercharged 6.2 Liter (372 C.I.D) LS9 engine is rated at 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque.

The BN3 Supercharger Series Cylinder heads were custom designed by Ned Erkman, specifically to efficiently enhance performance for the LS9 Engine in the ZR1 Corvette. The BN3 Supercharger Series Cylinder heads are equipped with larger intake and exhaust valves with much improved intake port configurations that flow significantly more air and fuel into the engine and more importantly, the exhaust port flows a much greater volume of exhaust out from the forced inducted LS9 engine.

The bigger intake and exhaust valves and higher flowing intake and exhaust ports can help to lower boost pressure and increase supercharger power. Since pressure is a measure of resistance, more efficient cylinder head flow rates help to reduce boost pressure and make more efficient power by reducing the energy required to operate the supercharger. The reduced friction associated with the operation of the supercharger also helps to lower intake air temperature to develop more efficient supercharger power.

NEDHEAD BN3 SUPERCHARGER SERIES
cylinder heads improve supercharged engine efficiency by discharging large volumes of hot exhaust from the cylinder, thereby allowing more air and fuel to fill the cylinder to produce more efficient power. Superior cylinder head technology for Supercharged LS9 engines.

BN3 NEDHEADS vs. STOCK LS9 HEADS

  • Larger 2.20 Intake & 1.61 Exhaust Valves vs. LS9 Heads 2.165 Int & 1.59 Exh.
  • More compression with 64 cc chamber volume vs. 66 cc for LS9 cylinder heads.
  • Higher valve lift with 1.8 rocker ratio vs. 1.7 ratio rockers for the LS9 cylinder heads.
  • Stronger aluminum castings with bronze valve guides to improve valve stem wear.
  • Better intake and exhaust port designs for more flow and improved engine power.
  • Technologically advanced higher heat resistant valves and valve-train equipment.
MULTIPURPOSE TEMPLATE

2009-2013 LS9 ENGINES

BN3 NEDHEADS SUPERCHARGER SERIES made for LS9 engines in the ZR1 Corvette, to enhance performance by flowing more exhaust & heat out from the supercharged engine.

WELL DOCUMENTED

SUPERCHARGER SERIES

BN3 NEDHEADS SUPERCHARGER SERIES is made for supercharged LS9 engines with better port designs and bigger valves to flow more air and fuel into the engine with less boost pressure.

BN3 NEDHEADS SUPERCHARGER SERIES cylinder head system prices are based on two performance levels with different modifications and valve-train components.

NEDHEAD BN3 PRODUCT SPECS

The BN3 Supercharger Series Cylinder heads were custom designed by Ned Erkman, specifically to efficiently enhance the performance of the Supercharged LS9 Engine in the ZR1 Corvette. BN3 has 12° valve angles and larger 2.20” intake and 1.614” exhaust valves. that use standard LS7 rocker arms with higher 1.8 ratio rocker arms which produce more valve lift.

The intake port flows over 380 CFM and the exhaust port flows over 270 CFM. Better intake and exhaust port designs produce more flow and improved engine power and performance. The higher exhaust flow is important for the efficient operation of a supercharged engine. Made in the USA with Virgin A356 Aluminum alloy, which has excellent cylinder head casting characteristics that include higher structural strength and resistance to hot cracking. BN3 also has bronze valve guides for better valve stem wear.

DYNO TESTS: BN3 SERIES CYLINDER HEADS INSTALLED ON LS9 ENGINE IN ZR1 CORVETTE

ZR1 Corvette Dynamometer Test Results:

NEDHEAD BN3 PHASE 2 LS9 ENGINE VS. Stock LS9

The SUPERCAR NEDHEADS BN3 SUPERCHARGER SERIES equipped engine with Phase 2 - LS9 engine system produces 640 RWHP on this Mustang Chassis Dyno test, which is accurately estimated to be over 800 HP at the engine.

This level of LS9 engine power and performance is developed with the stock LS9 supercharger pulley, the stock air intake system and the stock air filter. Proving that total power production is simply developed with Supercar NEDHEAD BN3 Supercharger series Cylinder heads, custom LS9 Phase 2 Ned Cam, ATI Overdrive Harmonic balancer and 1 7/8 Primary Tube Headers and Corsa Exhaust System.

ZR1 Corvette Dynamometer Test Results:

NEDHEAD BN3 PHASE 2 LS9 ENGINE VS. Stock LS9

The superior performance capability of the SUPERCAR NEDHEAD BN3 Supercharger System is demonstrated by the boost pressure measurement on the Mustang dynamometer which shows a drop in boost pressure from 12 PSI to 9 PSI at maximum power of 640 RWHP.

The reduction in boost pressure is a result of the efficient intake airflow through the BN3 intake port & the increased exhaust flow through the BN3 exhaust port, along with the valve timing events from the custom camshaft developed by Ned, specially designed to work with the BN3 NEDHEADS to make big power with only 9 PSI boost.

FLOW TESTS: BN3 SUPERCHARGER SERIES HEAD VS. LS9 ENGINE CYLINDER HEAD

BN3 Cylinder Head Intake Port Flow Test

BN3 NEDHEAD vs. Stock LS9 Cylinder Head

Comparative Analysis of BN3 NEDHEAD Intake Port Flow

BN3 Cylinder heads flow over 380 CFM through the intake port, which is 80 CFM more flow than the production LS9 cylinder heads equipped on the ZR1 Corvette.

Technically, increasing intake airflow by 1 CFM can increase engine power by .25 horsepower per cylinder, which represents a 2 horsepower increase in an 8-cylinder engine. Improving intake airflow by 80 CFM can increase engine power by 160 HP (80 CFM x 8 cylinders’ x .25 = 160HP).

To achieve this power potential, the engine must have good, unrestricted airflow through the complete air intake system. The engine also requires the right camshaft profile and compression ratio to maximize the power potential of the intake airflow.

NEDHEAD BN3 Systems are developed as complete engine systems with custom designed camshaft profiles that optimize engine performance

BN3 Cylinder Head Exhaust Port Flow Test

BN3 NEDHEAD vs. Stock LS9 Cylinder Head

Comparative Analysis of BN3 NEDHEAD Exhaust Port Flow

BN3 Cylinder heads flow over 270 CFM through the exhaust port, which is 40 CFM more exhaust flow than the production LS9 cylinder heads.

Technically, exhaust port flow should be at least 70% of intake port airflow to optimize the engines intake to exhaust flow ratio, to compensate for forced inducted engines boost pressure.

To optimize the efficiency of engine exhaust flow, the complete exhaust system must be unrestricted with the best exhaust system for the power level desired. The engine also requires the right camshaft profile with the best exhaust valve lift and duration to work as a complete and balanced engine system.

NEDHEAD BN3 Systems are developed with the best custom camshaft profiles, exhaust headers and exhaust systems with high flow catalytic converters.
